The Buggy

We now have 2 buggies available for you to use! The Kaylan House buggies are generally available for complimentary use by guests staying at the house. We do not charge a fee for this, as it is a privately owned buggy, and we reserve the right to withdraw its availability for any reason. If you experience ANY problems with the buggy during your stay, please do not drive it. Call the owners (Steve 0428 415 217 or Evelyn 0477 259 966

The buggy is an electric-powered Club Car and is suitable for light use only. If you anticipate more extensive buggy use (for example large groups, big families, or wedding parties making multiple transfers) please consider hiring an additional buggy from the Hamilton Island Resort Buggy Hire (07 4946 8263When you arrive at the house the valet staff will give instructions on how to operate the buggy, including how to recharge it. To fully recharge the batteries takes up to 8-10 hours (overnight) and this gives enough charge to last up to 75 minutes of run time. The buggy should only be used for a maximum of 20 minutes at a time, otherwise the motor can overheat and cause serious damage.

Hamilton Island imposes a buggy curfew between the hours of 1.00am and 6.00am. All Queensland road rules are applicable and enforced on Hamilton Island. This includes the wearing of seatbelts, no driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, no talking on the phone while driving and no overloading the vehicle.

If you have children under the age of 4 years old it is a requirement for them to be in a baby seat at all times. You can bring your own with you (airlines do not charge extra) or one can be hired for $60 for the duration of your stay. Please make sure that you use the buggy responsibly in order to avoid personal injury, police fines, and expensive repair bills. If you have any questions regarding the buggy, please ask us.

Wildlife

During your stay at Kaylan, you can expect to meet some of the local wildlife.Chef-the-Kookaburra-Hamilton-Island-family-accommodation

Kookaburras are often seen waiting in the tree branches for any sign of a grub or worm in the gardens below. They are very tame and may fly onto the balcony handrails.

Sulphur-Crested Cockatoos are frequently seen all over Hamilton Island and can make a mess if doors and windows are left open with the house unattended. It is best to discourage them from being at Kaylan House.

Lorikeets are also regular visitors to Kaylan. Their bright colours and inquisitive natures are very endearing.

Owls sometimes perch during the day in the trees around the house, but you will have to look closely to find these guys.

Possums can be spotted in the trees outside the house. Please make sure that no food scraps are left on the balcony overnight and you should discourage any possums you find on the balcony.

Goannas have been sighted scratching at the mulch in the gardens, particularly in the warmer months. Don’t get too close to these guys, they have sharp claws.

Wallabies will sometimes come to the rear of the house in the evenings, but will quickly hop away when disturbed.

Bats can be seen at dusk and dawn as they move from their nesting site on the other side of the marina to their food source.
